Late last year I received the incredible news that my short story “Hewitt’s Life Supply” was being published by The Last Line journal. There was a bit of a gap between that news and the arrival of the physical magazine. By the time I got my hands on it, I was giddy with excitement.
The Last Line is the once-yearly sister publication of The First Line. The premise of both journals is to give writers a prompt — the first or last line of a story, respectively — and publish a few replies. I found The First Line when I was first trying to decide where to publish my work. I adored the idea that instead of writing something and then looking for its home, you write a story to fit a particular home.
I have submitted four stories to The First Line and was rejected each time (I actually published one reject, A Dirty Business, here because I loved it so much). So, it really was heartening to have a story accepted by their other imprint.
I wish I could share Hewitt’s Life Supply with you all here. It’s a surreal and tender story about a brokenhearted woman and the magical store that brings her back to life. If that sounds like something you’d be into, you can buy a copy here.
Thanks to everyone who supports me in my literary journey. Having stories published is really cool, but nowhere as awesome as having you in my life.
SO PROUD OF YOU!
